Citric acid has traditionally been used in the food industry and indeed the Citric acid we sell is 100% Food Grade and can be used in food and beverages. Citric acid is a key ingredient in the manufacture of bath bombs, where it is combined with Sodium bicarbonate, Essential Oils, Colourings and Butters to create fragrant and indulgent Bath Bombs. In a Bath Bomb, the acid acts as a natural preservative, stopping the Bath Bomb from "going off".
Citric acid is used as a pH adjuster in the production of Cosmetic products. In a shower gel it is often used to lower the pH to ensure maximum efficacy of Preservatives. A small addition of Citric acid can also bring the surfactants of a Shower Gel into their optimum range of foaming and aid the skin feel of a shower gel, by making it feel more feeling and lowering the "harshness" of a surfactants. In glucoside and Xanthan based Shower gel formulations, Citric acid improves the viscosity of the final product and helps remove air bubbles during production.
Citric acid is a weak organic acid with the formula C6H8O7
