Moisturisers are an essential part of any skincare regime for males, females, young and old and no matter what skin type. Moisturisers play several roles in aiding the skins natural processes as well as helping to protect from the pollutants around us, whether they be natural or man made. A good moisturiser will protect your skin from the sun, wind and cold and from environmental pollutants such exhaust fumes, smog and general city grime.
A good moisturiser will not only provide this protection, but will also nourish your skin with the combination of ingredients which act to plum and comfort your skin and make it easier to apply your make up and foundation. The moisture layer applied to your skin will stop or slow down the evaporation of water from your skin leaving a healthy glow and minimising the risk of dehydration in the skin which in turn makes your skin look soft and supple.
A moisturiser should be used everyday and is best applied twice a day (morning and night). A moisturiser applied during the day has the business of defense to deal with, whilst an evening moisturiser normally used in a less polluted environment can get on with the job of repairing and re hydrating the skin.
A few tips can be followed which will not only allow you to get the most out of your Naturallythinking moisturiser, but will also aid your skin and help to keep it free from spots and acne.
Step 1: Cleanse and Tone your Face
It is always best to apply a moisturiser to a cleansed face. Applying to a dirty face is effectively rubbing bacteria and dirt into the skin which the moisturiser will then lock in. Cleanse using our range of Naturallythinking face washes which are gentle on your skin, leaving the skins natural oils but clearing bacteria and then rinse clean. You can follow with a toner or use a Naturallythinking Cleanser to further balance the pH and enrich your skin before moisturising. For details on how to make a natural cleanser from floral water without chemicals, please see our floral waters section.
Step 2: Apply the Moisturiser
Always apply moisturiser with clean hands. Starting with the center of the face apply an ample amount up and out to give your face a bit of a lift, with this action of application, you will not only receive the benefits of the moisturising, but a daily routine will help tone and lift the facial muscles... giving them they're own little work out. Do not apply moisturiser to the eye area as this can be heavy on under eye tissue and although immediate results will look good... long term use is will make the under eye area lazy. Instead dab a few drops of our Eye Cool & Bright Gel under the eye and do not moisturise within a centimeter of the undereye area. Always allow at least 3 minutes for the moisturiser to naturally soak in before applying any makeup such as foundation.
Step 3: Don't forget you have a neck
It is always easy to forget to moisturise the neck, but this is normally one of the most give away areas to your age. A youthful neck can knock years off of your appearance. Like the face, stroke upwards and don't pull the skin down, to help tone your under jaw and neck area.
Some final tips
Always apply moisturiser before applying foundation, even if your skin is oily.
A moisturiser should be applied daily and preferably twice daily.
Always clean your face and hands before applying moisturiser.
You can wear a sunscreen over moisturiser. Sunscreens often do not have all the normal moisturising benefits.
To help trap water in the surface cells apply a moisturiser to a wet face.
The dryer your skin is, the heavier a moisturiser you should use.
If your foundation disappears within a few hours of application or "drags" when you blend it, that means that your skin probably needs more moisturiser.
Always keep creams away from the eye area.
